Commonplace
The Green Knight laughs at the silent hall, Arthur rises in shame and takes up the axe, and then Gawain asks to take his place, calling himself “the weakest” and “the feeblest of wit.” Number the reasons he gives for asking, in his order. Is he being humble, or sparing the king?
At the close of the first part, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
